About the club
It started with a group of friends, both beginners and experienced players, who shared a passion for golf. They formed an association known as the Bocage Golf Club to pursue their love of the game. Their names were CONNAN Alain, Michel NEUVILLE , Patrick POUPARD , DUCHEVET Gilles , Jean Jacques MALERGUE and Dominique TRICOT .
The lack of a course in Bressuire meant members had to play at Mazières en Gâtine, a municipal course, supported by the General Council of the Deux-Sèvres, which subsidized the Bressuire club to the tune of 250,000 Fr ( € 37,000 ) for the construction of a driving range and four practice holes. Thanks to this commitment, Claude Boutet , then the Mayor of Bressuire, gave the go ahead for the creation of this facility which was realised in 1995/1996 and inaugurated on 12 May 1996.
1996 / 2000
Since then the club has organised many ‘friendly’ competitions on neighbouring courses, supported by about thirty players and is encouraging initiation and training through its Open Days The General Council of the Deux-Sevres also supports this initiative by providing free transport to school children and students, so that they too can learn to play golf.
2000 / 2010
Under the presidency of Gilles DUCHEVET and subsequently Jean-Luc PERRIER, this continued until the General Council stopped the funding. The club was forced to rely on volunteers for its competitions, training and social events. Even so, the lack of a proper golf course limited their activity.
Towards the end of the decade, with the encouragement of the Mayor Jean-Michel BERNIER, the town of Bressuire again looked at the possibility of creating not just a golf course, but also a new housing development on land to the North of the town. The new development would help satisfy housing demand in the rapidly developing town, and the golf course would be built alongside it, linking in with the ‘Coulée Verte’ which already passes through the town.
In light of this project, the club changed its status with a view to managing the future golf course. Under the name of the Bocage Bressuirais Golf Course (BBGC) and the presidency of Claude SAGEOT-CHOMEL, a new committee was formed. The team comprised the founding members of the original association : Hugues ROUX, Michel COUTURIER, André et Michel GUERY, Christian CAILLE, as well as some new and young players. The club became affiliated with the Federation Francaise de Golf (FFGolf) and created a 6-hole (12 tee) Pitch and Putt course. This facility is designed to help as many players as possible to practise and be ready for the full 18-hole course when it is ready.
2012 / 2013
The club moved officially to what was once the farm « Grand Puchaud », North of Bressuire. The 6-hole (12 tee) pitch and putt course, completed in 2012, was transformed into a 9-hole (18 tee) short course in 2013.
An 8.6 acre driving range with 25 bays (6 of which are covered) and a 9-hole practice green were also opened, with a pitching green being finished in September 2013.
Work on the new course is at an advanced stage and we hope to open the full 18 holes in spring 2016.
